1 | Thinking Out Loud
Have you ever heard of kintsugi?
It's the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. Instead of hiding the cracks, you fill them in with something precious. The broken places become the most beautiful parts of the piece.
The philosophy behind it is simple but radical: the thing that was broken is more beautiful because it was broken.
Not in spite of the cracks. Because of them.
I've been thinking about my own journey through that lens this week.
The challenging seasons in my career...
The fits and starts as an entrepreneur...
The skills I picked up along the way...
The ebbs and flows of my confidence...
The ideas I shelved and the grief that came with shelving them.
For a long time I looked at all of that as evidence that I wasn't ready. That I'd taken too long. That I'd broken too many times to be taken seriously now.
But what if the cracks are the point?
What if every false start, every detour, every season of not trusting yourself was actually filling you in with gold?
Preparing you, quietly and sometimes painfully, for this exact moment?
You're not starting from scratch. You're starting from experience, and that's a very different thing.
